Fordham Thinks U2 More Important Than Classes?

Rumorville has U2 performing at Fordham University this Friday.

A University really wouldn't cancel classes to accommodate a band from Ireland would they?

Eric R. Danton
It was all very hush-hush, except that these things always leak: U2, in New York March 2-6 for a week-long stand on "The Late Show with David Letterman," caps its stint in the Big Apple with a "secret" performance Friday, March 6, at Fordham University.
Don't go canceling your Friday plans, though: a Sound Check source reports that it's a Fordham-only show, and says it'll require a university ID (a Fordham ID in your name, that is) to get anywhere near campus that day.
Professors have reportedly been told by the administration to cancel morning classes "for security reasons." The band is expected to play at Fordham after appearing on "Good Morning America."

U2's new album, "No Line on the Horizon," comes out Tuesday.

Jerks catch giant stingray

I'm a giant stingray.  Minding my own business.  Swimming along just being giant and not bothering anyone.  Then some jerks come along.

Giant stingray captured

The largest stingray ever found is dragged onboard a boat by 13 men. » Weighs nearly 800 pounds

Fortunately they didn't kill the pregant stingray.

After she had been towed to the bank (too big to be onboard the boat), she was duly marked, had DNA samples removed, and returned to the river whence she unwillingly came. Welch gave her a farewell smooch, then spent the rest of the day with a cold beer and memories of her.

Skynet Research

Check out this cool company I found. They are called skynet and I think they are doing really great things to help humanity.

Skynet

Products //Mobile Aerial Ground Support (MAGS)

DESCRIPTION

Nicknamed MAGS by the troops, this limited autonomous robot is ready to serve for the Red, White and Blue!  Primarily a support weapon in the urban warfare environment of today, this robot fulfills the promise of forward aerial reconnaissance and fire support where it is needed the most.  The main unit is almost dead silent and serves as a home base for the squadron of aerial drones that can be called on at any moment by a dedicated assigned soldier.  Once airborne, the drones serve up real-time intel on enemy movements, locking on and tracking multiple targets in a hostile environment.  Defensive and limited offensive weapons can only be activated by the MAGS controller and automatically replenish themselves after engagements.  Currently in limited deployment at undisclosed locations, MAGS is already making the world a safer place!

The Final Fate of the Masturbating Bear

A great sketch from the last days of Conan.

Check out Carrie Fisher. This is why there will never be Episode 7.

Springsteengate and Ticketmaster

Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. will offer as many as 2,000 Bruce Springsteen tickets as part of a settlement with New Jersey for the company's handling of the musician's May concert appearances.

A random ticket drawing will be held for 1,000 fans who filed complaints after being unable to buy at posted prices for shows to be held May 21 and May 23 at the Izod Center in New Jersey, the state attorney general's office said yesterday. Each person can buy two tickets.

Springsteen joined lawmakers and state regulators in criticizing Ticketmaster this month after fans trying to buy tickets online were steered to a company-owned resale website, TicketsNow, where prices were substantially above face value. The pact restricts how Ticketmaster operates the site, which competes with eBay Inc.'s StubHub.

"Everyone deserves an equal chance to buy tickets on a primary ticket-selling website and shouldn't be steered to a reselling website where the prices can be substantially higher," New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram said.

Under the accord, the company will be barred from linking to its resale site for at least a year when consumers at the main Ticketmaster site are told no tickets are available. The world's largest ticket-selling network also agreed not to pay for Web advertising that would lead consumers searching for "Ticketmaster" to the TicketsNow site.

In addition, TicketsNow won't list tickets from brokers and other sellers until the initial sale begins at Ticketmaster, a move to address complaints that the site had listed tickets before box office opened. People who don't win the drawing will get a $100 gift certificate.

Galactica TOS Movie?

Glen Larson is talking about yet another version of Galactica - this one would be a continuation of the original 1978 series.  Richard Hatch has explored this universe thoroughly, and I think it would be interesting to follow the adventures of Commander Apollo and the Galactica.

I don't know if it would pale in comparison to the Moore series (man we've come a long way from the "Starbuck Is A Woman! outrage) but we do know now that Hatch can act.

Here's something Hatch made in 1999, unfortunately many of the actors have passed on - but this gives a clue as to one direction the movie could go.

As for me - I'd like to see a continuation of Galactica 1980.  Those super-scouts must be around 40 now, and it sure would be interesting to see the Cylons attack Earth.

How To Fix U2's Latest Album

I took No Line On The Horizon for a run this morning and I think I've solved the problem.

You need to pretend it's an EP.

Make the following playlist in itunes, in this order.

1.   No Line On the Horizon
2.   Magnificent
3.   I'll Go Crazy...

That's really it.  Those three work and you'll feel like your buddy hooked you up with some decent unreleased U2 songs.

if you really need a 4th to finish your EP pick Stand Up Comedy, but I warn you that song gets really old really fast.

As for the other 7 tracks - skip them.  You'd be better off listening to the B-sides from Joshua Tree.

Late Night With Conan O'Brien

Tonight's the last night of Conan.

This was one of those shows that I always loved when I caught it, but I only caught about 20 of the 2700+ episodes they did.  That says more about me, no DVRs until about 5 years ago, and my hate of things piling up on the DVR (I don't watch the excellent Daily Show for that same reason).

The show hit it's stride once Andy Richter left.  (Andy must have the same PR firm that Tina fey has.  Neither is funny).   The show always had the "screw it it's 12:30" feel that the old Letterman show had (and old man Letterman sorely lacks).

It was nice to say goodbye to the masturbating bear the other night (frozen in carbonite!) and no I don't think you can do that bit on Johnny Carson's old show.

Will Conan work at 11:30?  I'm not sure.  Maybe his boyish charm will work on the midwesterners.   He'll have to change his act a little, and I don't know if he has the interviewing chops.   Then again he looked like a disaster when he first took over for Dave, so lets wait a year before we judge.

Reflecting on U2's New Album...Nope Still Sucks

So this morning I gave No Line On the Horizon another chance to make sure I wasn't on the rag yesterday....nope...it's as bad as I said it is (full review here ).

The album really sounds unfinished.  It reminds me of the "Black Album" bootlegs circa All that You Can't Leave Behind.   Musically, the Edge is playing "Boy" and everyone else is playing Zooropa/Pop.

Really disappointing.

U2's new album not "Bad" It's Awful

Bono must be dead and rolling over in his grave. Clearly the man with the nickname "Bono Vox" has been replaced by an imposter with no range.

This album should be called "No line at the record store" or "No line to buy tickets."

The soaring choruses of Bono's youth are now long gone - instead of soaring he pulls the lyrics down (like what we first saw on Staring At The Sun).

Here's all you need to know: "Boots" is the best song on the CD! Have you met anyone who likes that song? Me neither.

1. No Line on the Horizon - the old b side "Lady with the spinning head" with new lyrics. Forgettable

2. Magnificent - starts out promising with some Boy-October guitars. Then some awful synth steps on those. Bono takes the first two minutes off and then hands in something that would work on side 3 of Pop. One of the "better" songs on this mess once it gets going.

3. Moment of Surrender - another song with a too long intro. Bono (assuming he is still alive) jumps in at the 1:17 mark. This would be on side 3 of All That You Can't... Stick with regular Surrender.

4. Unknown Caller - sounds like an October outtake. Some nice retro Edge in here but again it takes two minutes for Paul to start singing. When he does (joined by the whole band?) its not good.

5. I'll Go Crazy... - another Pop sounder. This one had potential but Bono won't sing it "right" and drops in an annoying falsetto. One of the "better" tracks.

6. Boots - you've heard it and you hate it

7. Stand Up Comedy - U2 gets funky. I liked it the first time I heard it and it got annoying really quickly with repetitive "hooks" and annoying too-clever lyrics like "stand up for your love."

8. FEZ Being Born - yep that's the title. Um...er....the first minute is a um their attempt to do Revolution #9? I think there's a song in here somewhere but it's not a good one but I can't wait around for it.

9. White as Snow - one of those depressing "low" stories that Bono tends to stick at the end of an album. You'll play this one when you first get the CD and never ever go back.

10. Breathe - I'm no musician but I know where the lyrics belong in a song. Bono puts them somewhere else and it's actually annoying to listen to.

11. Cedars of Lebanon - Paul doesn't even bother to sing this one. He just talks the lyrics. The album ends on a low energy bummer.

That's it. Album over.

This one is totally skippable. Worse than Pop, worse than Zooropa, worse than the not-aged well October. By far the worst of their career. 0 stars.

Here's a crazy theory for you. Maybe Daniel looks a lot like Dirk

I think if Dirk were on the BSG set that word would have leaked but I

Batman Between

Yesterday's Batwoman post got me in a Batmood.

Since there's no Heath Ledger to be the Joker, and Catwoman and Riddler are played out, and nobody cares about Bane and Harley Quinn and all that crap - here's my suggestion:

In "Batman Between" our caped crusader is having a quiet week.  Not much happens.  the GPD arrest a couple common criminals.  Bruce Wayne goes to a shareholder's meeting.   There's no payoff.  Maybe he adopts a youthful ward at the end.  Critics give it one star.  It still makes a hundred million dollars.

I'd love to see someone take a stab at the basic premise of "Batman Beyond" and some of the comics - have The Batman get too old to do this for much longer and see how that plays out.

New Simpsons Credits

Batwoman

DC is dusting off Batwoman.  No not Batgirl, Batwoman who they ivented in the 1960s (I think) before TV invented Batgirl (I think - Batnerds can correct me on both).

Batman needs to protect his trademarks a little better.  Seems like anybody can slap on a cowl and call themselves Batblogger or Batdude.   I mean Batgirl is just a librarian who has a lot of secret cash that allowed her to build a secret room and get a cool motorcycle (again TV canon.  You Batnerds can tell me about the books).

This Batwoman is easy on the eyes.  Unfortunately she isn't into guys or golden retrievers.  Hopefully she'll show up in the 5th or 6th installment of the Christian Bale series.

Hey Bono, Elvis Did It Better

I'm still mad at U2 for this new awful Boots song.   Elvis Costello did it better years ago.  U2 and those Wild Wild West guys from the 90's need original ideas.

AT&T's Data Plan Pricing Makes No Sense

Got an iphone on the 30th.

When you get an iphone you must get the data plan.  I'm not trying to encourage you, you have to.  Without a data plan your iphone is just a brick, so you kinda need it.  That makes sense.  It's $30 a month.

So I got my iphone at 4pm and did what everyone else does, I played with it a tad.

Got my bill.   Apparently through a billing screw up they had me on old-style data on the 30th - even though that makes no sense.   Used 17,000 bits or whatever it is and got billed $170!

They credited me so I'm not complaining and the bill isn't really the point.

On the31st I see i used 170,000 kb.  Would I have gotten a $1700 bill for that?

Project out my usage and assume the 170,000 is normal usage.  That suggests a $51,000 phone bill for February, yet AT&T can afford to charge me just $30.

51 grand and 30 bucks are too different numbers.  I think they might be overcharging for data on old-style phones, don't you?

Manhattan Is Way Too Loud

Manhattan is way too loud.  When I walk down the street and can't hear my ipod with buds in my ears, it's too loud.   Around Times Square it's especially annoying with all the construction.   I don't have a solution, i just don't like the place.

Life On Mars, Will You Just Watch It?

Life on Mars is one of the best shows you aren't watching.   You're so not watching it, you're even watching it less now that it's scheduled after Lost.   That surprises me.  At least I was correct about pairing the awful faded Grey's Anatomy with the always was awful Private Practice....and I'm always right that nobody watches 30 Rock except employees of Entertainment Weekly.

Anyway - Life on Mars.  You should watch.  It's a 1970's cop show with 5% sci-fi on top.  Is the main guy in a coma?  Is he a time traveler?   It doesn't matter, and I don't really care why he's in 1973.

For the BBC version of Life on Mars, I did care.  BBC shows are sprints.  As soon as a series starts there are like 4 episodes until the end.

In America we like marathons.  I like this whimsical American version.  There was a good bit where the wonderful Michael Imperioli (better here than he was on Sopranos) riffed about how nobody would want to carry a phone everywhere.

ABC is doing that annoying thing where they show episodes out of order, so you really need to focus, but give this one a shot.   Tonight 10pm eastern.

Scrubs Cost-Cutting?

I love Scrubs, always have.   Every year I've enjoyed it as if it were the last season, and this year is nothing different.  It's very cool to finally see the show in HD (something I don't think NBC ever offered).

This year I've noticed some oddities.  A complete episode without Dr. Cox.  A whole episode goes by without Turk.  Then one without Carla.   Is this cost-cutting?  It reminds me of the final season of West Wing where they almost platooned two separate casts, or if you pay close attention on Star Trek there are plenty of episodes where Kirk calls to Scotty but James Doohan doesn't answer back.

ABC loves this show about as much as NBC did.  They are already switching timeslots, and they are already showing episodes out of order.    We were supposed to see a lot of the next class of interns but they haven't been on all that much.   Somehow I got 8 seasons out of this show so I shouldn't be greedy.

Nascar Kart (Wii)

I got an advance copy of Nascar Kart Racing, because I'm cool, and so is this game.

Basically it's Mario Kart with a Nascar paint job.

Race, grab some power-ups, throw some bombs, unlock some tracks and characters.

Three laps and done.  Don't take your thumb off the gas.

The graphics are fine, and make me hopeful that we'll get NASCAR 2010 on the Wii.  So far EA Sport has blown off the top selling system when it comes to the racing game.  Maybe they'll get the online to work too, unlike Fifa '09's online which just plain doesn't work (I challenge you to complete one game without a disconnect.)

If you need a Nascar fix, or just feel like reliving the college days, grab this one.  Not the greatest game ever, but neither was Star Wars Force Unleashed.  Out tomorrow.

Tina Fey Mafia Lets Entertainment Weekly Down

I read the latest Entertainment Weekly last night and found something shocking.

There was no full page article about Tina Fey!

Sure there were two mentions of 30 Rock, but those were small and really about Baldwin and John Hamm.

What was shocking was that there wasn't an article naming her entertainer of the new milennium, or comparing her to Lucille Ball, or talking about how accidental it was that the Republicans ran someone who looked like her, I mean what a great impressionist she is.

We're due for EW's four straight Oscar issues.  Hopefully Tina will be a presenter so they can write about how she's better at the Oscars than Bob Hope ever was.

Here's How Lost Will End

The time travel on Lost is driving me crazy.  It cuts the legs out of the entire series because it allows for the reset button.   The reset button is a television plot device that allows writers to unbox themselves from plotlines they themselves created.

Want Jim back?  Just bring him back!

So here's how the final scenes of the final episode of Lost will go:

The Big Thing will happen and the timeline will be restored.

Cut to Oceanic Flight 815.   Jack is seated and having a drink.   A pretty woman, Kate, catches his eye and they have a moment.  Then he realizes she has handcuffs on and goes back to looking out the window.   Sun leans lovingly on Jim.   Locke reads a military magazine.  Claire feels her belly.   Charlie writes down some words to a new song on a napkin.  Hurley eats a cupcake.   The pilot announces that they will be landing in Los Angeles in just a few minutes.

One final cut to the island.   Ben looks over the hills and makes than Ben stare.

Thwump, Lost.

People compare it to the lousy Seinfeld finale and the lousy Sopranos finale and begin speculating about a movie.  Except you, your DVR didn't record the last minute.

Galactica Was Good, Not As Great As Last Week

I enjoyed BSG, although I felt the mutiny arc got wrapped up a tad too quickly.

The scene where Zarek had the Council killed was the highlight.   It's too bad we won't have Richard Hatch any more - he did a great job on both incarnations of BSG - and I still wish that they had killed off Adama rather than being a dopey vision.

So now the leadership really is Bill, his girlfriend and his son.  There's no Council.  I guess Lee is the VP now by default?  and did anyone feed Romo's dog?

Gaeta Is Right

Gaeta is right to take over Galactica.

We have lived to long under a corrupt government of accidental leaders.

I've spent the last 4 years on a sweaty cramped spaceship being told we were going to Earth.  We stayed there for a day in a half and then left with no explanation, and now we're supposed to be friends with the Cylons.

In case you forgot, the Cylons killed 50 billion of us.   Maybe you don't care but that's unforgivable to me.

We have a so-called President who is in her second term and yet she's never been elected.  The one time she ran for president she lost.   This mutiny should have happened when Zarek the terrorist handed her the presidency.

The military is led by a guy who was 5 minutes from retiring.  Another accidental leader.  The only reason Galactica survived was that it didn't have networked computers.  Now he wants us to network with the Cylons.   Again, the Cylons that killed 50 billion of us.

His second in command?  A cylon.  A CYLON!  Are you serious?

Who is the President sleeping with?   Adama!

Now that Roslin is sick who is running the government?   Someone named Adama of course!  Who put these people in charge?

It's time to free ourselves from the Adama-Roslin tyranny and to eliminate the Cylons forever.

Never forget!

Springsteen-gate: Ticketmaster Speaks

From Ticketmaster:

While we were genuinely trying to do the right thing for fans in providing more choices when the tickets they requested from the primary on-sale were not available, we clearly missed the mark.  Fans are confused and angry, which is the opposite of what we hoped to accomplish.  We sincerely apologize to Bruce, his organization and, above all, his fans.

We recognize that we need to change our course. We have committed to Bruce and state publicly here that we have taken down all links for Bruce's shows directing fans from Ticketmaster to TicketsNow.  This redirection only occurred as a choice when we could not satisfy fans' specific search request for primary ticket inventory, but to make sure there is no misunderstanding in the future, we also publicly state that we will never again link to TicketsNow in a manner that can possibly create any confusion during a high-demand on-sale.  Specifically, we will not present an option to go to TicketsNow from Ticketmaster without the consent of the artist and the venue, both of whom work together to bring the joy of live entertainment to millions of fans.

If any fans inadvertently purchased tickets in the resale marketplace believing in error they were purchasing from the initial on-sale, we will refund the difference between the actual purchase price and the face price of the ticket.  (Please don't abuse this good faith gesture – we did not give brokers any preferential access to tickets.)

We are committed to helping deliver the most transparent and best live entertainment experience to fans.  We will do better going forward.

Sincerely,
Irving Azoff, CEO, Ticketmaster Entertainment

Galactica Should Kill Off Adama

Here's a trailer for this week's episode.

How great would it be if they killed off Adama. It wouldn't be like the Richie-less episodes of Happy Days, it would be just five episodes without Olmos, and would set up a ton of drama.

I still think Gaeta is right, and when I have some time I will write about that.

Lost Sucked And Is Getting Worse

The time travel is stupid.

Other-other-others with catamarans.  Who cares.

random French people, and Rousseau and Jim is back.  Stupid stupid stupid.

I miss the old days of a polar bear and the black rock.

I couldn't wait for tonight's to end.

Bruce addresses Springsteen-gate and Ticketmaster!

So on Monday when Springsteen tickets went on sale there were lots of technical problems with Ticketmaster.  The curious part was that many fans were unable to buy tickets yet were referred to Tickets Now, the TM version of Stubhub.  Bruce will tell you more:
A Letter to Our Fans:

We know there was much confusion regarding Ticketmaster and TicketsNow during last Monday's on-sale dates. We were as confused as you were, as we were given no advance notice of the major changes in the Ticketmaster-TicketsNow world. (Bear in mind that we are not clients of any ticketing company, and that all those arrangements are between venues and ticketing companies.)
Last Monday, we were informed that Ticketmaster was redirecting your log-in requests for tickets at face value, to their secondary site TicketsNow, which specializes in up-selling tickets at above face value. They did this even when other seats remained available at face value. We condemn this practice.

We perceive this as a pure conflict of interest. Ticketmaster is there to ensure that we have a good, fair sale of our tickets at their face value plus normal ticketing charges. TicketsNow is supposed to be a secondary site where people who already have tickets may exchange, trade, and, unfortunately, speculate with them. We have asked this redirection from Ticketmaster to TicketsNow cease and desist immediately and Ticketmaster has agreed to do so in the future and has removed its unwanted material from their and our site.

We know the many cynical arguments some make in favor of the Ticketmaster system: There are rumors that some artists or managers participate in Ticketmaster charges--we do not. There are rumors that some artists or managers are receiving a percentage of the amount above face value at secondary outlets like TicketsNow--we do not. Some artists or managers may not perceive there to be a conflict between having the distributor of their tickets in effect "scalping" those same tickets through a secondary company like TicketsNow--we do.

While many of you have sent notes to us and your local promoters, you may also send accurate informational letters to Albert Lopez of Ticketmaster [Albert.Lopez@ticketmaster.com] and he will try to address your questions.

A final point for now: the one thing that would make the current ticket situation even worse for the fan than it is now would be Ticketmaster and Live Nation coming up with a single system, thereby returning us to a near monopoly situation in music ticketing. Several newspapers are reporting on this story right now. If you, like us, oppose that idea, you should make it known to your representatives.

The abuse of our fans and our trust by Ticketmaster has made us as furious as it has made many of you. We will continue to do our utmost now and in the future to make sure that these practices are permanently curtailed on our tours.

Bruce Springsteen, Jon Landau and the entire Springsteen Tour Team

But wait, there's more!
New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram said today her office would investigate Monday's sale of tickets to Bruce Springsteen concerts at the Izod Center in May after consumers complained about problems they encountered with the Ticketmaster website.

"Consumers are questioning what transpired and if they had an equal opportunity to purchase these concert tickets. We share these concerns and are investigating this matter," Milgram said today.

The state Division of Consumer Affairs has placed an icon labeled "Bruce Springsteen/Ticketmaster Complaints" on its main web page for consumers to reach an online complaint form. More than 250 complaints have been received.

Tuesday, Congressman Bill Pascrell (D-8th dist.) requested the federal government investigate allegations that Ticketmaster diverted tickets for the Springsteen concerts to its subsidiary, TicketsNow, an online secondary ticket marketplace. Pascrell asked the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department to investigate whether TicketsNow was given special treatment.

New Jersey fans hoping to buy tickets to the May 21 and 23 concerts reported they were not able to secure tickets through the Ticketmaster website but instead were directed to the TicketsNow site, where seats were being re-sold for three and four times their cover price.

Springsteen-gate not going away

From northjersey.com:  http://www.northjersey.com/politics/springsteentix020309.html

Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. wants to make a federal case out of the way Ticketmaster handled Monday's sale of Bruce Springsteen tickets.

Pascrell, D-Paterson, asked the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department today to investigate how ticket buyers who tried to buy tickets online were told after shows sold out that tickets were available, for a steep markup, from a subsidiary company TicketsNow.

Pascrell questioned in letters to FTC Chairman William E. Kovacic and Acting Assistant Attorney General Scott Hammond of the antitrust division whether there was a conflict of interest in the relationship between Ticketmaster and TicketsNow.

"I am troubled by how quickly tickets priced exponentially higher became available on the secondary market to thousands of rejected fans, many who also endured unfortunate technical problems on Ticketmaster.com,"
Pascrell wrote.

"There is a significant potential for abuse when one company is able to monopolize the primary market for a product and also directly manipulate, and profit from, the secondary market," he said.
He also said that tickets were able to show up on TicketsNow so quickly -- some began appearing within 15 minutes of the tickets officially going on sale -- it "raises questions about whether TicketsNow brokers were given preferential treatment instead of competing on a level playing field with average consumers."

Springsteen-gate at Ticketmaster

I touched on this yesterday.  Lots of folks were having problems getting through on Ticketmaster.com.   A friend reminded me that there was phone technology, and while I was able to buy tickets to one show, on my second go around TM was unable to process credit cards.

The online never connected.

Lots of cranky fans here:

and the NJ Star-Ledger reports the below:

Like many fans, Ann Marie Madiefsky was at her computer before 9 a.m. Monday, waiting for tickets for two Bruce Springsteen concerts at the Izod Center to go on sale.

And like many fans, Madiefsky came away empty. After 40 minutes -- and an error message stating the service was down "due to routine maintenance" -- Madiefsky was told Ticketmaster had no more tickets. She was re-directed to TicketsNow, the Ticketmaster-owned internet marketplace where hundreds of tickets were available for hundreds and, in some cases, thousands of dollars over the $65 and $95 prices.

"I'm livid," said Madiefsky, 42, of Marlboro, who has been to dozens of Springsteen shows over the last 20 years. "It's a horrible, frustrating experience every time he comes around. No one will stand up to Ticketmaster. Nobody is questioning how these people are getting these tickets."

Ticketmaster says the Boss' popularity -- and the fact tickets for the North American leg of his tour went on sale the morning after he performed at the Super Bowl halftime show -- created huge demand. Springsteen is going on the road to promote his latest album, "Working on a Dream," released last month. He will play the Izod Center in East Rutherford May 21 and 23.

About 30,000 tickets to the two Meadowlands concerts sold in about 65 minutes, according to the Izod Center. Capacity for each show is just over 20,000. About 5,000 tickets are held back for the band, promoter and record company.

Ticketmaster spokesman Albert Lopez said only a "teeny" number of fans received the error message that Madiefsky encountered. He said those fans would be contacted by the ticket service to try to "close the transaction" since many fans were in the middle of making a purchase when they encountered the error message.

Lopez also said no tickets were moved to TicketsNow in advance of the primary sale.

"We're under contract with the venue, promoter and talent to put the tickets on sale at a specific time and date," he said. "We're are contractually obligated to do that and that's why I can guarantee we don't hold back and plant tickets on Tickets Now.

"There are probably 150,000 Bruce Springsteen fans wanting to see the show on any given night, and they are all competing for tickets and it just can't happen," he said. "There are a limited number of tickets. This happens every time there is a band that is touring and they have a dedicated fan base."

Lopez said Ticketmaster customers are directed to the secondary marketplace, TicketsNow, as a courtesy.

"We were totally sold out, so we provide fans with an opportunity to look within the secondary market," he said. Lopez said tickets being sold on TicketsNow are not owned by Ticketmaster or by TicketsNow but by individuals or brokers. TicketsNow receives a percentage of the re-sale of each ticket.

A change in scalping laws has helped spark the internet ticket market. In New Jersey, there are no restrictions on the re-sale of tickets on the internet.

Still, the state Division of Consumer Affairs will look into complaints made by consumers yesterday.

"We're trying to ascertain what happened with this process," said Jeff Lamm, spokesman for Consumer Affairs. "People want to know that they had an opportunity to get the tickets and that there was a level playing field. We don't know until we look at what transpired.

But many fans insist the sale is rigged.

"I don't buy what they're telling me," Madiefsky said. "It's a lie."

Did Springsteen break Ticketmaster?

I'm hearing lots of tales of people who jumped on ticketmaster.com and found long long waits before finally getting kicked off to this message:

Our ticketing system is currently unavailable due to routine maintenance. Please check back at a later time.

It's noon and that error is still coming up.  Well for Springsteen ticjets anyway.  I was easily able to buy tickets to West Side Story.
